Yoga Props

Props are not always used in a yoga class. Most of the time, experienced yogis rely on their own sense of balance and muscle memory to achieve the asanas assigned by the instructor throughout class. If you are new to yoga, or recovering from an injury, you may find the use of props helpful.

Props can serve two main purposes: they help you strike poses by affording better balance, and they may help you stretch your muscles in new ways. Your yoga class may offer props for use, or you can bring your own to class.

Some of the more commonly used props in traditional yoga classes are:

  • Foam Blocks

  • Belts

  • Bolsters

  • Wedges

  • Balance/Fitness Balls

  • "I am very grateful to Joy for bringing Yoga Reflections into my life. In two years of attending Beginner Yoga, just twice a week, I have experienced improved breathing, strength, flexibility and balance. My yoga practice has also been a factor in finally shedding some excess weight, which is hard to do when you reach the age of 70! Yoga has also helped to make the short, gray days of our Michigan winters more cheerful. Joy is a wonderful teacher and her studio is so peaceful and gorgeous! And, my fellow students are the nicest people."
